When you think of the word detox, whose side are you on? The cool, hipster, detox-is-good-for-my-body crowd? Or the “Yucky green juice! Just give me a pizza and let me live my life” side?
Whichever side you are on, the fact is detox is a seven day to month long activity of self-inflicted misery right? Nope. We are here to tell you that you don’t need to suffer while you detox.
The human body has a natural detoxifying ability. All you have to do is aid that system without suffering too much yourself.
1. Quit Bad Habits
This is probably the toughest aspect of detox. But also the most essential. Your body can’t detox while you retox. In addition to the big bad three – Alcohol, Smoking and Sugar, stay away from trans fats and deep-fried food. Even coffee has got to go. Try green tea instead.
2. Drink Lots of Water
You probably realise the importance of water for human survival. When it comes to detoxifying, however, water is far more important than you realise. Drinking 3-4litres of water is a good starting point, for detox you will need to increase that amount steadily.
3. More Superfoods
The gods amongst regular vegetables and grains, superfoods like Kale, Quinoa, and Avocado are rich in antioxidants to combat a number of toxins and even diseases.
4. Load Up on Probiotics
Eat a lot of Probiotic foods like yoghurt to increase the good bacteria in your body that helps with digestion.
No, you don’t have to go on a month long fast. The idea here is to give digestive organs a break. Start with a one day in a month fast and then increase the count. Or have one day a week where you have done away with solid foods.
6. Have a Smoothie Meal
Take your favourite fruits and veggies and blend them together in a delicious smoothie mix. That way you aren’t depriving your tastebuds, or yourself of necessary nutrients while also giving your body a needed break from solid foods.
7. The Sweat Routine
There is no quicker way to detox than to sweat it out. A combination of cardio and visits to the sauna is what you need to jumpstart your bodies natural detox capabilities.
